Styled Newborn Model Call Session in Southern Minnesota

A Boutique Photography Session Full of Personality and Sweet Sister Moments

There is something extra special about a newborn photography session that comes together exactly the way you imagined it. This recent Minnesota model call session was one of those moments for me — the kind that makes your heart so full and reminds you why you love what you do.

When I plan a model call, it’s always with intention. I design the set to reflect my brand and the soft, cozy feeling I want every Andrea Mae Photography session to have. For this one, I leaned into my signature creamy neutrals, layered textures, and warm tones that feel timeless and calm. I also had the perfect excuse to use a brand-new outfit along with a swaddle and bonnet set that I absolutely swooned over. Let’s be honest… sometimes I simply cannot resist adding a new piece to my collection when it feels just right.

Upgrading a Minnesota Family Newborn Photography Session

Originally, this was planned as a simple baby-only model session. But mama decided to upgrade to a full newborn session so we could include the whole family — and I am so glad she did. She absolutely nailed the wardrobe. Every outfit was thoughtfully chosen to complement the set, creating a cohesive, soft, and beautiful gallery. It’s always such a joy when families trust the process and lean into the styling because it truly makes the entire experience feel elevated and polished.

Both big sisters were calm, gentle, and so incredibly sweet with their new baby. But as anyone who knows toddlerhood can guess… there was a brief moment when participation was not high on the priority list.

So I leaned into all of my toddler-whisperer skills — patience, playfulness, and a little creativity. In the end, Smarties quietly saved the day. A few strategically placed pieces on baby sparked just enough curiosity and interaction to capture those meaningful sibling moments.

And truly? It’s all part of the story. I always remind parents that this season is beautifully real. The wiggles, the moods, the unpredictability — they’re woven into the memory just as much as the posed smiles. Years from now, those are the details that will make you smile even bigger.

Why Sibling Photos Matter So Much

I understand deeply how important sibling photos are. As a mom myself, one of my most treasured photographs is the one of my boys together. It captures my whole heart in a single image. The connection, the love, the beginning of their lifelong relationship — it’s something you can never recreate later. That’s why I never give up easily on sibling photos. I know how much they will mean years from now, long after the toddler stage is forgotten.

Dreamy Minnesota Newborn Photography Session

And baby girl? She was an absolute rockstar. She slept the entire session and made my job so easy. The kind of baby every newborn photographer dreams about.

But my favorite part of this studio session wasn’t the perfect styling or the peaceful sleep. It was her personality.

This sweet girl kept sticking one little leg straight up in the air. Instead of gently tucking it back in like I usually would, I embraced it. Because it made me giggle. And because it felt so uniquely her. Those tiny quirks are the things parents will remember. The little movements, the expressions, the way their baby already shows hints of who they are becoming.

Moments for Mom and Dad, Too

Another part of this session that I always hold close to my heart is the time we spend capturing just mom and dad with baby. In the middle of the newborn haze, these quiet moments often go by so quickly. Parents are adjusting, healing, and learning all about their baby, and it can be easy to forget to step into the frame. But these images matter so much.

For moms, it’s the weight of your baby resting on your chest. The way your arms instinctively wrap around them. The overwhelming rush of fierce protection and unconditional love unlike anything you’ve ever known.

For dads, it’s pride and quiet wonder. It’s the steady hands that suddenly feel gentler. The protective instinct that shows up without being asked. The look of awe that says, “I can’t believe I’m a dad.”

These are the photographs that bring you right back to not only how it looked, but how it felt. And that my friends is what makes these images priceless.

A Moment of Gratitute

To this sweet family — thank you for trusting me, embracing the process, and allowing me to tell your story. Watching your girls become big sisters and welcoming your newest little love was truly an honor.

If you’re dreaming of a newborn session that feels cozy, intentional, and full of heart, I would love for you to reach out so I can create something just as meaningful for your family.

All the best,

Andrea
